How To Set Up
PSO Proxy 0.9
Using a Broadband Adapter

Introduction

This guide is to help you set up PSO Proxy if both your PC and Gamecube are on the same network. If you don't have a network or are using a modem, I briefly discuss these methods at the end of this document. The reason this guide is mainly for Gamecubes on a network is because this is one of the more common connection methods and the easiest to set up. If you do wish to set up a network to share your internet connection or to connect your Gamecube to your PC, the Xbox Live website has a good guide to getting started.

For information about actually taking snapshot in the game, please read your manual.

Getting started

The first thing you will need to do is unzip PSO Proxy into a directory on your PC. If you have managed to unzip PSO Proxy correctly, the directory view in Explorer should look something like this:

Once you have done this, launch the program by double clicking on the PSO Proxy icon. You should then see the PSO Proxy application in the top left of your screen which looks like this:

Click the start button and the "Proxy Port" text box should become disabled. If you receive the error "Unable to bind socket", click the stop button, change the port number to something in the range of 5000 - 64000 (ish) and click start again.

Now note down the number used for the Proxy Port.

Testing PSO Proxy

To test that PSO Proxy is working, open your web browser and enter http://127.0.0.1:8080/ (change the last number if your Proxy Port is different). If everything is working, you will briefly see "Please wait..." in the browser before being taken to a Japanese website (this is the page used to upload snapshots in the Japanese version).

Finding Your PC's IP Address

This varies on the version of Windows you are using.

Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME
1 - Bring up your Start Menu
2 - Click Run
3 - Type "winipcfg" and press enter

You should now see a window that looks something like this:

Drop down the list box so your network card is selected and *not* your PPP Adapter. Write down the IP address.

Windows 2000, XP
1 - Bring up your Start Menu
2 - Click Run
3 - Type "cmd" and press enter
4 - In the console window, type "ipconfig /all"

Write down the IP address of you network adapter.

You should now have the IP address of your PC and the Proxy Port number.

Setting Up Your Gamecube

When the main menu comes up, follow these steps:

1 - Select "Options"
2 - Select "Network Options"
3 - Select "Provider Options"
4 - Select "Yes" to go into web mode
5 - Select "Network Setup"
6 - Select "Edit menu"
7 - Select "Next"
8 - Select "Next"

You should now be at a screen prompting you for a proxy server address and a proxy port number. If these have already been filled in, WRITE THEM DOWN NOW!

9 - Enter the IP address of your PC and the proxy port number that you wrote down
10 - Select "Next"
11 - Select "Save"
12 - Select "Return To Game"

Now, when you try to connect to the web site (Website option from the main menu), you will be taken to the snapshot download site. If you wish to use the PSO pages using your Gamecube again, re-enter the Proxy settings from before. That's why you needed to write them down.

However, it is possible to access the same pages from your PC instead of your Gamecube using the following address: http://gc.st-pso.web.sega.net/

Viewing your snap shots

You snap shots will be saved in the snapshots directory that PSO Proxy is installed in. If you don't have any image viewers installed, you should be able to drag them into your web browser to see them.

Other Connection Methods

BBA connected to a PC using a Ethernet crossover cable
This method requires that you have a network adapter in your PC and you know how to set it up with an IP address and subnet mask. Use the above steps to find your PCs IP address, but also note down the subnet mask. You will now need to set up your Gamecube connection to connect to your PC. Unless you're running a DHCP server on your PC, you will need to set up the IP address of the Gamecube manually. An example configuration will be:
PC's IP Address : 192.168.0.1
PC's Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Gamecube's IP Address : 192.168.0.2
Gamecube's IP Address : 255.255.255.0

Generally speaking, your Gamecube's subnet mask must be the same as your PC's while the last number of the IP address must be different. You will then need to set the Proxy address in the Gamecube set up to be the PC's IP Address and the Proxy port to be the port used by PSO Proxy.

Now, all you have to do is connect the Gamecube to your PC's network card using a cross over cable and go to the Website option from the main menu in PSO.

Modem connected directly to your PC's modem
Although possible, this method is much trickier to set up, there was a guide written for doing this with the Dreamcast. Although we don't support connecting through this method, in theory it should work. Once again, if you manage to set the connection up correctly, you just need to put the PC's IP address into the proxy settings on the Gamecube.

Modem connected to a friend's PC across the Internet
This requires that you know someone who can tell you their IP address that they use on the Internet and are running PSO Proxy. Before you go online, you need to get your friend to tell you their IP address so that you can set your Gamecube proxy settings to it. Now you just go to the Website from the main menu just as you would normally, except with any luck, you should see the PSO Proxy upload page. When you've uploaded your snapshots, your friend will then need to send them back to you.

PLEASE NOTE THAT NEITHER OF THE MODEM CONNECTION METHODS ARE SUPPORTED BY US.
